Rapid Interface

Rapid Interface Copy@2x.png

Problem: Rapid Interface saw an opportunity in the print industry to quickly provide printed electronics (keypads, flexible faceplates, and decal sheets) to be used by industrial designers and engineers on prototypes. Typically these engineers work with overseas vendors and have to wait days for design approval and weeks for prototypes to arrive. Using proprietary software that can instantly approve uploaded designs, Rapid Interface solves this problem by offering it’s users 5 units in 5 days. In its beta state, Rapid Interface consulted our team to analyze the user experience and enhance their web application. With the goal of growing their business, they approached us to further develop and refine their web ordering platform in order to improve customer experience, enhance user satisfaction and increase sales.

Solution: Our research and interviews led our team to update the Rapid Interface homepage, create a products page with individual product pop-up windows, create a saved designs page and order history page for a user’s account and add email communication to the user journey.

Methods: competitive analysis, user interviews, evaluative interviews, architecture flow, low and high-fidelity prototyping

Tools: Adobe Illustrator, Sketch, Invision

Team Role: Completed competitive analysis research; served as visual designer for the products page, products popup and customer emails; contributed visual header to homepage; created ‘Our Process’ on homepage and ‘How It Works’ on products page to capture users and clearly communicate our client’s capabilities; created design guide for client handoff

USER Goal

The users of Rapid Interface are product designers and engineers who wish to quickly and accurately have their printing needs met. They expect to see a clear explanation of Rapid Interface’s process and the design uploading process, as well as the capability to see their design and order history’s and receive instant order confirmation feedback.

RESEARCH

In order to understand the scope of the space we conducted a competitive analysis of what other print companies are doing. This included other print industries such as Spoonflower, Vistaprint, and Shutterfly and electronic prototype competitors such as Butler Technologies and DataPro. We also interviewed seven designers and engineers. This informed our user flow and site interaction attributes.
